El pasado 26 y 27 de Abril se celebró en la sala de convenciones ExCel de Londres  The Clinical Pharmacy Congress, donde Fagor Healthcare acudió con el fin de aprender más sobre el mundo de la farmacia clínica y sus nuevos retos en el Reino Unido. En este concilio, diseñado por los mismos organizadores que el Pharmacy Show, se calcula que se reunieron un  total de 1.760  farmacéuticos clínicos y  técnicos farmacéuticos.

El congreso tenía como fin servir de plataforma para dar a conocer los cambios que se están dando en el sector a nivel de medicamentos, prácticas farmacéuticas y servicios. Hubo numerosas conferencias sobre aspectos concernientes a la profesión, abordando temas tan diversos como el tratamiento de enfermedades, formas de uso de nuevas medicinas o la optimización del uso de las mismas. En conclusión, se trata de un evento dispuesto para que los boticarios puedan renovarse y aprender nuevas tendencias que puedan ayudar a ejercer su profesión de la mejor manera posible.

Además del gran número de ponencias disponibles, en el área comercial se concentraron en torno a 100 expositores donde se podían encontrar, asociaciones como la Association of Pharmacy Technician, la British Oncology Pharmacy Association o la Pharmacists’ Defence Association (PDA) informando a los boticarios sobre las novedades que se están dando en el sector. Por otro lado, también pudimos ver a compañías farmacéuticas del tamaño de Pfizer y Glaxosmithkline presentando sus productos a aquellas personas que se acercaban a los stands.

Asimismo, gracias a su presencia en el congreso, pudimos conocer los servicios ofrecidos por compañías como Co-operative Pharmacy o residencias BUPA donde se preocupan por la continuidad del tratamiento del paciente una vez éste haya dejado el hospital. El número de fabricantes de equipamiento de farmacia fue escaso, principalmente pudimos encontrar sistemas de empaquetado de medicinas en bolsitas individuales y software para gestionar stocks.

En este evento tuvimos ocasión de aprender un poco más sobre la farmacia clínica y sus necesidades en el Reino Unido, aunque no cabe duda que muchas de las prácticas aprendidas en ese país pueden ser extrapolables a España y nuestra manera de trabajar aquí.

Last 26 and 27 of April, The Clinical Pharmacy Congress was held in the ExCel London convention centre, where Fagor Healthcare attended in order to learn more about the world of clinical pharmacy and its new challenges in the UK.

At this meeting, designed by the same organizers as The Pharmacy Show, it is estimated that a total of 1,760 clinical pharmacists and technicians were gathered. The conference aimed to provide a platform to raise awareness of the changes that are affecting the health area regarding to pharmaceutical practices and services. There were various conferences concerning issues about the profession, and topics as diverse as the treatment of diseases, new ways of using drugs or optimizing the use of them were approached. In conclusion, this is an event arranged for pharmacists so as the can renew and learn new trends which may help to their profession in the best possible way.

Besides the large number of sessions available, in the commercial area around 100 exhibitors were congregated. There, we could find associations such as the Association of Pharmacy Technicians, The British Oncology Pharmacy Association and the Pharmacists’ Defence Association (PDA) with the aim of informing the pharmacists about the new developments that are happening in the sector. On the other hand, we could also see pharmaceutical companies of the size of Pfizer and Glaxosmithkline presenting their products.

Also, thanks to its presence in the conference, we learned about the services offered by companies like Co-operative Pharmacy or BUPA carehomes where they talked about their concern regarding the continuity of the patient treatment once he/she has left the hospital. We can say that the number of pharmacy equipment manufacturers was scarce. We could mainly find medicines packaging systems in individual sachets and softwares to manage stocks.

In this event we had the opportunity to learn more about clinical pharmacy and its needs in the UK, although there is no doubt that many of the practices learnt in that country may be extrapolated to Spain and to the way work is done here.
